International, cultural and economic exchanges have progressed rapidly in recent years due to advances in modern transportation and in formation technology. As a result, opportunities for contact between people from abroad and Wakayama citizens are now greater than ever before.

Our prefecture has a long history of being a gateway over”¾ seas for many emigrants, and in modern years, friendship exchanges with foreign countries have been established. Through such relations, we are actively pursuing various international exchange activities. For example, each year we host a number of foreign students, technical trainees, and professional workers.

This brochure, which forms a link to these exchange activities, is designed to help foreign people learn more about Wakayama Prefecture. I sincerely hope this brochure will deepen your understanding of Wakayama - a place which we hold dear to our hearts.

May 1996

Isamu Nishiguchi
